New Rajasthani Textile Designing Corporations

Over in Bani Park, specifically at No. A-145 in Barodiya Basti, is where we do our textile designing. Arvind Nagar is a busy little pocket of Jaipur. New Rajasthani Textile Designing Corporations sounds like a big name, but we are just a group of people working with cloth and patterns. Our workspace is usually covered in bits of thread and sketches. We have these long tables where we spread out the fabric to see how the designs look. It’s not a very quiet place because there is always someone talking or the sound of scissors cutting through heavy material. We’ve been in this building for years, and the walls could probably use a new coat of paint. But it doesn't really matter as long as the work gets done. Most of us have lived in this area for a long time, so we know the neighbors well. We get our tea from the stall at the corner every afternoon. Designing textiles takes a lot of patience, and sometimes we get it wrong and have to start over. It is just part of the process. We don't have a showroom with fancy lights. If you come by, you’ll just see us working. We mostly deal with the local markets and traders who want something specific. The fabric we get from the markets is often heavy and dusty, so there is always a layer of it on the tables by the end of the day. It is a steady life, and we like being tucked away here.
