Our workshop is at Plot 181 in Govind Nagar, just off the Ajmer Road in Jaipur. If you walk inside, the first thing you’ll notice is the smell of leather. It’s everywhere. We’ve been working out of this spot for a long time. It’s a bit of a rough-and-tumble place. The floors are rarely clean because there’s always bits of leather and thread falling everywhere. We have a small group of workers who really know their way around a hide. Most of them have been doing this since they were young. We aren't about fancy presentations or glossy brochures. We just make leather goods. The machines are old and they make a lot of noise, but they still get the job done. Jaipur is a hot place, and the workshop can get pretty stuffy in the summer months, but we just keep the fans going and keep working. We source our leather from different places and sometimes the quality varies, so we have to spend a lot of time sorting through it all. It’s a practical business. We don't have a mission statement or any big goals other than making stuff that’s sturdy. We sell to people who just want something that lasts. We don't spend money on advertising. People usually find us through word of mouth or by seeing the sign when they're driving down Ajmer Road. It’s just a regular local business, and that’s all we want it to be.
