Anokhi Beauty Parlour

Anokhi Beauty Parlour is a small business we run in the Ambabadi area of Jaipur, 302021. It is a very simple setup that we have had for quite a while now. We don't have a big staff or a fancy building. It is just a couple of rooms that we have turned into a workspace. We have the basic things like mirrors, chairs that we’ve had for years, and a few tables for our supplies. We do all the regular beauty work like cutting hair, doing facials, and threading. Most of the people who come to see us are women who live right here in Ambabadi. They know they can just walk in and we will take care of them. The walls have some simple decorations and a few old calendars. It is not the kind of place that looks like it belongs in a mall. It feels more like a part of someone’s home. We don't use any complicated language or try to sell people things they don't need. We just talk about the weather or what’s happening in the neighborhood while we work. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to open the door to let in more light. It is just a normal, everyday part of life for us. We keep the floor swept and the tools clean, and that is about it. We are glad to be a small part of the community here in Jaipur.
