Anjali Hair Cutting Salon

Our little shop is located on Kisan Marg in Sanganer. It’s been here for a while now, and we’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit over the years. The traffic has definitely gotten worse, but the people are still the same. We mostly get the men who live on the nearby streets coming in for their regular cut. It’s a small space, so if three or four people are waiting, it feels crowded. We have a bench outside for when that happens. The walls are painted a light color, though they probably need a new coat soon. I do the cutting myself most days. I like the sound of the scissors. It’s peaceful in a way, even when the street outside is noisy with horns and people shouting. We keep a radio playing in the corner, usually some old songs that everyone knows. Sanganer is a busy part of Jaipur, but inside the salon, things slow down a little. We don’t rush through the work. If a customer wants to talk about their day, I listen. If they want to sit in silence, that’s fine too. I usually start early in the morning before it gets too hot. By the time I close up at night, I’m ready for a seat myself. It’s just a normal hair cutting shop for normal people. Nothing more and nothing less than that.
