Being near Mataji Temple means there’s always music and bells ringing. Our place is easy to find if you just walk towards the temple gates. We have all kinds of handmade items tucked into every corner. Some of the stuff comes from villages far away and we have to unpack it all from big crates. It gets dusty. I spend a lot of time just moving boxes around. It’s not a big corporate office or anything. It’s just us and the items we sell. My sister helps with the bookkeeping on an old desk in the back. Sometimes people come in just to escape the sun for a bit. We don’t mind. We have these wooden figures and woven bags all over the walls. It feels a bit like a warehouse sometimes but a nice one. The floor is concrete and we have to sweep it twice a day because of the street dust. We’ve been in this spot for a long time now. People who come to pray often stop by afterward to look at things. We don't really do big advertisements. Most people just see the sign when they're walking by. It’s a simple setup. We try to keep the prices fair so locals can buy things too. In the rainy season, the roof drips a little in the corner but we put a bucket there. It’s just home for us and we like the people who visit. We just keep the doors open and see who comes in.
