Ambika Beauty Parlor

Ambika Beauty Parlor is right here in Mansarovar Colony on Kalwar Road, not too far from the Jaipur G P O. It’s a simple setup we’ve got going. There are a couple of stations for hair and a small area in the back for other things people need done. The chairs are comfortable enough, even if they've been around for a few years. We keep the mirrors clean, or at least we try to between all the hairspray. It’s mostly women from the neighborhood who drop in. We hear a lot of stories while we’re working, everything from wedding news to just gossip about the market. The air conditioner hums pretty loud in the summer, but nobody seems to mind. We have a shelf with different creams and bottles, most of which we use every single day. It’s a bit of a tight fit when three or four people are waiting, but we make it work. Sometimes we run out of towels and have to wait for the laundry to finish, just one of those things. We don't have a big staff, so if it gets busy, you might have to wait a little while while we finish up with someone else. It’s a friendly place, and we like that people feel okay just sitting and chatting even after we’re done with their hair or whatever they came in for. We just keep the door open and wait for the next person to walk through.
