Our school sits right near Udyanjali School on Dhar Road. It is a busy part of town with a lot of trucks and cars zooming by all day long. We have a gate that stays shut to keep the noise out, but you can still hear the honking sometimes. The building is a decent size, but it feels smaller when all the students are inside. We have a gravel path that leads from the main road up to the front door, and we are always having to rake the stones back into place. Inside, the hallways are narrow, and the walls are covered in student drawings and old calendars. We don't have a big fancy auditorium, so we do most of our meetings right in the courtyard. The weather gets pretty hot out here on Dhar Road, so we try to keep the windows open for a breeze. The staffroom is just a small corner with a kettle and some old chairs where we sit and talk about our plans. We don't have a lot of high-tech stuff. We use chalkboards and paper mostly. It’s a very practical place. We focus on getting through the lessons and making sure the kids understand what they are reading. Every afternoon, the parents line up their scooters outside the gate to pick everyone up. It is a hectic twenty minutes, and then it goes quiet again. We’ve been doing this for years.
