Mountain View Tropical Orchards Private Limited is tucked away in the Idukki hills, and the name actually fits because you can see the slopes from just about everywhere around the property. We spend most of our time out in the orchards rather than inside the office. It’s a lot of physical work looking after tropical trees. The weather in this part of Kerala can be unpredictable, with heavy rains and then sudden hot sun, so we are always keeping an eye on the sky. The address is just where we keep the records and meet up to talk about the harvest. We aren't doing anything revolutionary, just growing what grows well in this red soil. Thodupuzha has a certain way of life, and we are part of that. Some of us have been working these plots of land since we were young. Having a private limited company sounds formal, but in reality, it is just a way for us to handle the business side of the fruit we grow. You might find crates stacked up or people arguing about the best time to pick the fruit. It’s a noisy, living kind of place. We don't have a receptionist or anything; if the door is open, someone is usually there to help. It’s just how we do things in Udumbannoor, and we wouldn't change it.
