Kattappana Farmers Producer Company

We started Kattappana Farmers Producer Company because a bunch of us around the Suvarnagiri area needed a way to organize things better. Our office is at 21/534 Kattoor in Vellayamkudi, and if you know the area, it’s a pretty quiet spot most days. We don't have a big fancy setup, just a regular place where we meet and talk about the crops and the weather. Sometimes the rains in Kerala make things difficult for us, especially up here in the hills, but we just keep going. A few of us spend most of our mornings checking on the fields before heading over to the office. It isn’t always easy getting everyone on the same page, but being a producer company helps us stay connected. Most of the people working here grew up around Kattappana, so we know the land pretty well. We handle the daily paperwork and the distribution stuff from the Vellayamkudi post office area. Some days are busier than others, especially during harvest time when there is a lot of shouting and moving things around. We aren't trying to be some giant corporation or anything. We just want to make sure the farmers in our group have a place to go and someone to talk to about the market. It’s just us, some chairs, and a lot of talk about soil and seeds. It works for us, even if it gets a bit messy sometimes with all the boots and mud. We stay open as long as we need to.
