Yakkanti Rice

Down here at 3-5-749 in Sarojini Nagar, things stay pretty steady. We run Yakkanti Rice out of this space. It is a busy area so there is always noise from the street. We have bags piled up inside and it smells like raw grain all day long. Sometimes the neighbor's dog comes by and sits near the door. We don’t mind. The building has been here for years and the paint is peeling a little in the corners. We just focus on getting the rice ready for whoever needs it. It’s a lot of manual work, moving the sacks from one side to the other. Sarojini Nagar is a good spot but traffic can be a mess. We try to get the loading done early before the roads get too crowded. There isn’t much to the place, just the bags and the weight machine. We write everything down in a notebook. It is easier that way than using a computer for every little thing. The ceiling fan makes a clicking sound but it keeps the air moving. We just stay here until the work is finished for the day. Sometimes we stay late if a shipment is coming in from the fields. It’s just how it goes for us.
