The shop is located right there in Amberpet, specifically at 2-3-603/50/B/32 in Patel Nagar. If you walk past the Gandhi School, you can usually hear the sound of the sewing machines going all day long. We have been in this exact spot for a long time now. People bring in rolls of cloth they bought at the market and we figure out how to make it fit them correctly. It is mostly shirts and trousers for the local men, but we get all sorts of odd requests from time to time. Sometimes the thread breaks or the needle gets stuck in a thick seam, and we have to stop everything to fix the machine. The lighting inside isn't always perfect, but we know the patterns so well we could probably do it in the dark. My family started this business, and now we just keep the tradition going. There are piles of fabric scraps and loose threads all over the floor. We use a yellow measuring tape that is a bit worn out but it still gives us the right numbers. Customers usually come in after their work shift to pick up their bundles. Sometimes they want things changed at the last minute because they changed their mind about a style. We just do the work as it comes. The white chalk marks stay on the floor for days until we sweep. It gets a bit crowded when more than two people are waiting inside the shop. We keep the big scissors sharpened every weekend. It is a quiet life, just cutting and stitching for the neighbors.
