Sandhya Rice Depot

We run Sandhya Rice Depot near the bus stop in Kushaiguda, which is in the ECIL area. It is a very busy part of the city. Being near the bus stop means there is always noise and people running around. We keep the shop open late because that is when most people are coming home. We have stacks of rice bags everywhere. Different varieties like Sona Masoori or HMT are piled up. The smell of dry grain is the first thing you notice when you walk in. We use a simple metal scoop and a digital scale that sometimes acts up. My apron is always dusty. We don't have any big corporate slogans or anything like that. We are just here to sell rice by the kilo or by the bag. It is heavy work and my back feels it by the end of the week. The Kushaiguda area has changed a lot over the years but we have stayed in the same spot. We have some regular customers who have been buying from us since their kids were small. It is nice to see the same faces. We don't try to be anything we are not. It is just a rice depot. We keep the floor swept as much as we can but the grain always finds a way to scatter. Sometimes the stray dogs wait by the door for a bit of shade. In the rainy season, we have to keep everything very dry.
