S . Dayanand Flour Mill

If you go to Bansilalpet in Secunderabad, right across from the Bible House, you’ll see our flour mill at D. No:6-7-96. The first thing most people notice is the sound of the grinders and the smell of fresh grain. It’s a dusty place, there’s no way around that when you’re milling flour all day. My father started this, and now I’m the one looking after things. We get people coming in from all over the neighborhood with their bags of wheat or chillies. The machines are old and they need a lot of looking after, but they still do the job better than most. Working at S . Dayanand Flour Mill means you go home every night covered in a fine white powder. The Bible House is a good landmark, so nobody ever gets lost trying to find us. It’s a small shop, squeezed in between other old buildings, and we don't have much room for anything other than the machinery and the sacks. Sometimes the noise is so loud we have to shout to be heard over the motors. We don't have any fancy signs or advertisements. People just know we are here because we’ve been here forever. It’s a tiring job, standing on your feet and lifting heavy weights, but it’s what we know how to do. We just keep the motors running and serve whoever walks through the door.
