Rich Millets

The shop is tucked away at 3/9 on Road No 14 in Banjara Hills. It is not a very large place, but we make do with the space we have. My brother and I spend most of our mornings moving heavy bags of ragi and jowar around to make sure the shelves look somewhat full. The sun hits the front window pretty hard in the afternoon, so the sign has faded quite a bit over the years. We usually have a small fan running in the corner that makes a clicking sound, but it helps with the heat. People from the neighborhood come in looking for specific grains, and I often have to go into the back room to find exactly what they want. It is a bit of a mess back there with all the sacks piled up. I use an old wooden desk to keep track of the daily sales in a big notebook. Sometimes the shipments from the farmers are a day or two late, which can be frustrating, but that is just how things go. We don't have fancy displays or bright lights like the big supermarkets. We just weigh everything out on an old scale and tie the bags with some simple string. It is a quiet way to spend the day, and we have gotten to know the regulars pretty well by now.
