Mott Macdonald

I work as an electrical engineer at the Mott Macdonald office located at the Iwpp Shoibah Plant in Jeddah, Ksa. If you know anything about Jeddah, you know it gets incredibly hot out here by the water. Being based at an IWPP plant means there is always a constant humming sound in the background of our daily lives. My desk is usually completely covered in circuit diagrams and maintenance schedules. It is a very practical environment. We do not have plush carpets or fancy art on the walls. It is mostly heavy metal desks and a very loud air conditioner that we absolutely could not live without. Most of the guys here are focused on keeping the electrical systems running smoothly. We spend a lot of time out on the plant floor and then come back here to write everything up in our logs. The coffee is usually strong and very black to keep us going through the shift. We talk about the heat a lot because it is hard to ignore when you are stepping outside. Working at the Shoibah plant means we are a bit far out from the city, so we have become a tight-knit group over the months. We share tools and give each other advice on how to fix things that break in the salty air. It is a lot of hard work and sometimes very long hours when there is a shutdown or a big repair needed. We do not have a marketing department here. We just have engineers and technicians. Every day is about checking the loads and making sure the plant stays stable.
