You can find Kailashpati Coconut Merchant at H - 2 - 202 in Kummarigoda. We are located exactly opposite the Passport Office, which is a landmark everyone knows. It’s a very busy location because of all the people coming and going for their documents. We have piles of coconuts stacked up high every single day. The floor is usually covered in brown husks and bits of fiber from the morning's work. We get our supply early in the morning, sometimes well before the sun is even up. It’s a lot of physical work, moving the heavy bags and arranging the nuts by their size and how much water they have inside. My hands have gotten quite rough over the years from handling the shells every day. We serve a lot of different people, from temple goers to local shopkeepers who need stock. The Passport Office being right across the street means there is always a crowd of strangers nearby looking for directions or a place to wait. We just keep to our work in the middle of all that. The shed we use is quite basic, just some rafters and a roof to keep the rain off the coconuts. In the summer, it gets incredibly hot under the tin, but the shade helps us get through the day. We keep a small radio playing in the corner to pass the time between customers. It’s a simple trade. We buy coconuts, we sort them, and we sell them. There is no complicated mission here. We just want to make sure the stock moves quickly so it stays fresh. We’ve been at this spot for quite a while now.
