Imperial Foods Trading Company

Being on Abids Road in Nampally means there is never a quiet moment. Our address is 5-10-862 and it’s right in the middle of all the noise. Imperial Foods Trading Company is what it says on the door but to us it’s just the office and the store. We deal with various food items coming in from different parts. Since the traffic on Abids Road is usually a nightmare around noon, we try to get our loading done very early in the morning. Even though the building we are in has high ceilings, the walls could use some paint. We have stacks of boxes piled up nearly to the top in the back. While we work, there is a small fan that rattles all day. My father used to run things here and now it is mostly me and two other guys. A lot of time is spent on the phone talking to suppliers and checking on where the trucks are. It’s not a glamorous job. After grabbing some tea from the stall across the street, we just keep going. Sometimes customers come in looking for something specific and we have to dig through the inventory to find it. Because the floor is concrete, it stays cool even when it’s hot outside. We just keep the records in big ledgers and try to stay on top of the orders.
