If you walk down Shanti Nagar, you will find us at 2-1/256. It is a simple spot, and you can usually tell we are here because of the sound of the machines. There is always a light coating of white dust on the floor by the end of the day, no matter how much we sweep. People from the nearby houses come by with their bags. We spend a lot of time just talking to the neighbors while the flour is being processed. Shanti Nagar is a decent place to be, it’s not too loud most of the time. We have a small wooden stool near the entrance where we sit when the machines are running. The air inside always feels a bit heavy with that grainy smell. It’s a job that keeps your hands busy. Sometimes the bags are heavy, and our backs ache a little by the evening. We don’t have fancy computers or anything like that. Just the scales and the mill. We keep a ledger to write everything down. It works for us. Some days it rains and the street gets a bit muddy, which makes things a little messy when people walk in. But that is just part of life here. We open early because that is when people like to get their things done before the heat of the day kicks in. It’s just a regular local mill doing its thing every day.
