Computer Operator

Our place is in Malakpet, at address 16 2 835 122 402. It is a bit of a long number to remember, but locals know the area well. This part of Hyderabad is always crowded, and the noise from the street usually makes its way inside. I have been working as a computer operator here for several years. The room is tucked away in a larger building. It feels a bit like a cave sometimes because there isn't much natural light, so I keep the overhead tubes on all day. I do a lot of data processing and document formatting. It is a lot of repetitive work, but I do not mind it much. I usually have a cup of coffee nearby, though I try not to spill it on the keyboard. My desk is quite old and the wood is starting to peel at the edges. I do not really care about how it looks as long as I can do the job. Some days I have a lot of people waiting, and other days it is completely empty. I just sit and wait for the next task to come in. It is an honest living, and I have gotten quite fast at typing over the years. I do not use any fancy equipment, just what is necessary to get the documents printed and filed. I usually keep a stack of extra paper in the corner.
