Annapurna Engineering Works

If you walk down toward Sobhana Colony in Balanagar, you will find our workshop at Plot 2-187/2. It is called Annapurna Engineering Works, and you can usually hear us before you see us. There is always the sound of metal being cut or machines grinding away. The floor is usually covered in metal shavings, no matter how much we sweep. It is a hot, sweaty job, especially when the welding torches are going. We have some heavy machinery that takes up most of the floor space, so you have to watch where you step. Most of the guys here have grease on their hands most of the day. We take on all sorts of repair jobs and fabrication tasks. People bring in broken parts, and we see if we can fix them or make new ones. It isn't a glamorous life, but it is what we know how to do. The office is just a small corner with a desk and a few chairs where we sit to talk about the day's work. We drink tea in the afternoon when the sun is at its highest point. Sometimes we have to wait a few days for materials to arrive, which can be frustrating, but that is how it goes. We have been in Balanagar for a long time, and we know most of the other workshop owners nearby. We just keep our heads down and get the work done.
