We are based in Malakpet. It's a crowded part of town, so getting things in and out can be a bit of a headache with the narrow streets and all the traffic. Als Exim is mostly about trading goods and shipping them out. We handle a bit of everything depending on what's in demand at the time. I spend a lot of my time on the computer checking prices and talking to suppliers on the phone. My office is small, just enough room for a desk and a couple of old filing cabinets that are usually overflowing with papers. It’s not the kind of place where we have big meetings with fancy coffee. Usually, it's just me and a helper making sure the boxes are packed correctly and the labels are on straight. We deal with various items, sometimes textiles, sometimes small hardware parts. It really depends on what the market is doing. The neighbors are mostly other small businesses, so we all know each other and help out when needed. When a shipment arrives, we have to move fast to clear the space in the hallway. I've been doing this for about ten years now. You learn a lot about how things move across borders through trial and error. There’s a lot of waiting for customs and paperwork to clear, which can be frustrating. But that’s just the nature of exim work. We keep it simple and try to stay on top of the regulations. It’s a steady job and keeps us busy from morning till late evening every day.
