Akshitha Garments

Our shop is located in Shop No 4 of the Yashoda Apartments, right in Bhagya Nagar Colony in KPHB. If you know this part of Hyderabad, you know how busy and crowded it gets. We are surrounded by other shops and homes, so there is always a lot of activity outside our door. Inside, it’s mostly just us, a few sewing machines, and stacks of fabric everywhere. We work on all kinds of garments. Most of our day is spent measuring, cutting, and stitching. It can get a bit cramped when we have a lot of orders to finish, especially during the wedding or festival seasons. We don’t have a big staff, so we end up doing everything from the actual sewing to cleaning the floor at the end of the night. People from the colony often drop by to ask about alterations or to see what new cloth we’ve got in. The parking situation on our street is usually a nightmare, so we see a lot of people walking in. We keep the radio on for some background noise while we work. It’s a small local business and we’ve been here long enough that we know most of the faces that pass by. It’s hard work on the eyes and the back, sitting at the machine for hours, but it’s what we do. We just try to keep up with the pile of clothes on the table.
