Ruhul Brick Field

If you head out to Jallabaj, you will find us there near the Shaympur police station. Ruhul Brick Field is basically just a large open space in the Howrah district where we do our daily labor. It’s a lot of physical work, especially when the season is busy. We have workers who stay nearby and we all start early in the morning before the sun gets too high in the sky. It is a dusty job, and your clothes are usually covered in red earth by the time you go home. We don’t have an office with air conditioning or anything like that. We mostly just have a small hut where we keep the books and take a break. The road to the village can get a bit rough during the monsoon, which makes moving the bricks a bit of a challenge. We just do what we can with the tools we have. Sometimes the clay isn’t right and we have to wait, but that’s just how it goes with this kind of business. People from the surrounding areas know where to find us if they need materials for their houses. We don’t do any big advertisements. Word of mouth is usually how people hear about us. It’s a simple life out here in the field, just focusing on making things that last. We’re just regular people trying to make a living in Howrah.
