About Maa Kali Brick Works – Building & Construction Material in Howrah
We started this brick field out here in Uluberia quite a while ago. It's mostly just dusty work and keeping an eye on the weather because rain really messes things up for us. During the season, the chimney is always going and there’s a lot of smoke around. We have a crew of guys from nearby villages who handle the raw clay and stack the bricks for firing. It’s not fancy or anything. Most days involve checking the kilns or talking to truck drivers who come to pick up loads. The ground gets really muddy when it pours, so we have to plan ahead. Sometimes the batches come out a bit different depending on the soil we get, but they’re good enough for building walls and houses around here. People know where to find us in Uluberia because we've been on this plot for years. My clothes usually end up covered in red dust by lunch. We don't have a big office, just a small shed where we keep the books and sit when it's too hot outside. It's hard physical labor, especially during the summer months when the heat from the sun and the kiln hits you at once. We just try to get the orders filled and keep the stacks moving out. It’s a simple life, mostly just worrying about the coal supply and making sure the workers are doing alright with the heavy lifting.
