Our office is tucked away at 78/4/3 Thakur Ramkrishna Lane in Howrah. If you know the area, you know how these narrow lanes can be. It is usually crowded with people and rickshaws, which makes getting to work an adventure every single morning. We deal with manpower, so our day is mostly spent talking to people who are looking for jobs. They come in with their papers, sometimes looking a bit nervous, and we try to see where they might fit. The building is old, like much of Howrah-711104, but it stays cool enough even when the sun is beating down on the roof. We have a few desks and some plastic chairs for people to wait in. There is no receptionist or anything like that. Whoever is free just answers the door or the phone when it rings. It gets a bit chaotic when three or four people arrive at once, but we manage to sort it out. We spend a lot of time on the phone, calling different companies to see if they need workers. It is honest work, helping folks find a way to earn their living. We have been in this spot for some time, and the neighbors all know us. Sometimes we sit out on the steps for five minutes just to get some air. It is not a corporate setup, just a local office doing what needs to be done every day.
