Konark Tourist Service

Working at Konark Tourist Service means spending your day on Jassa Ram Road. We are located near the Niranjani Akhara here in Haridwar, which is a very well-known spot. The atmosphere around the akhara is always a bit different, a bit more traditional I suppose. Our office is just a regular room with some maps on the walls and a few desks where we handle the bookings. The address is Haridwar 249401. It’s not a very quiet road, especially when the festivals are happening and the sadhus are moving about. I usually start the day by opening the shutters and sweeping the front step. Then it’s just a matter of waiting for the phone to ring or for someone to walk in looking for a ride. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a bit over the years, but Jassa Ram Road stays pretty much the same at its heart. We drink a lot of tea while we work, usually from the shop just two doors down. Sometimes we have to explain the routes to the same person three times, but that’s just part of the job. We don’t have a big staff, just a couple of us making sure the cars are where they need to be. It is a practical way to earn a living, and we are right in the middle of the local action. Most days go by fast because there is always something to do.
