You can find us on the first floor of H.M. Tower, which is right on SC Goswami Road in Pan Bazaar. Being in the middle of Guwahati means it is always incredibly busy outside our windows. The traffic on the road can be a real headache, especially during the peak hours when everyone is trying to get through the market area. Our office isn't very big, but it’s where all the decisions for H.M. Cements Limited get made. We have desks piled with ledgers and files because we still do a lot of things the old-fashioned way. It gets pretty noisy with the horns honking outside, but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. Most of our day involves talking to distributors and making sure the logistics side of the cement business is running without too many hiccups. We usually have tea brought in a few times a day from the small shop downstairs. It’s a very urban environment, far away from the actual sites where the cement is being used, but this is the hub for our operations. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, and the elevator in the building is sometimes a bit temperamental, so we often just take the stairs. It’s just a group of regular people working hard to keep the company steady in a fast-paced city. We spend a lot of time on the phones making sure trucks arrive where they should.
