Abinass Pan Shop

This is just a small pan shop on Dr B K Kakoti Road here in Ulubari. Most people stop by while they are walking to the bus or just taking a break from work. We have all the different types of pan, plus some cigarettes and small candies. It’s a very tiny space, barely enough for me to stand inside and work. I’ve been sitting at this spot for years, watching the traffic go by on the road. Guwahati gets very rainy, so I have a plastic sheet I pull down to keep the counter dry. It’s not a fancy business, just a wooden stall really. People come by for a quick chat while I prepare their pan. I know how most of my regulars like theirs made, some with more lime, some with less. We also keep some cold drinks in a small cooler during the summer months. It gets very hot in this little box, but the breeze from the road helps a bit. I don't have any employees, it’s just me from morning until the street lights come on. It’s a simple way to earn a living and I get to meet all sorts of people every day. Some are in a hurry, others like to linger and talk about the news. That’s just the way it goes at a pan shop. It's nothing big, but it’s what I do to keep things going. I hope to stay here as long as I can.
