You’ll find Raj Pal General Store on Basai Road. It’s been here for quite some time now. We sell the usual household stuff that everyone needs, like sugar, tea, washing powder, and biscuits. The shop has a big shutter that we roll up early in the morning. It’s not a supermarket where you walk around with a cart. You just stand at the counter and tell us what you need, and we go grab it from the back or the high shelves. We use a wooden ladder to reach the top stuff. It’s a bit old-fashioned, but it works for us. The road outside is usually quite busy with traffic, so it gets a bit loud. We have a lot of regular customers from the nearby houses who have been coming here for years. We keep a ledger for the people we know well. It’s a lot of heavy lifting when the grain sacks come in. We try to keep the spices fresh and the stock rotated so nothing sits for too long. Sometimes we share a cup of tea with the neighbors when business is slow in the afternoon.
