B D Kataria Flower Decoration is located in the Amit Building, which is at number 3, near the Mata Mandir in New Colony. Having the temple so close means we see a lot of people every day coming to give their offerings and prayers. We do a lot of work with fresh flowers, mostly for weddings and local functions. The shop is usually a bit of a disaster area with flower petals and cut stems everywhere on the floor. We spend our mornings sorting through bundles of flowers and getting everything ready for the day’s orders. It’s a lot of manual labor, tying knots and making sure the garlands are strong enough for the ceremonies. The Amit Building is an older place, and we’ve been here for quite some time now. We don’t use any big machines or fancy tech, just our hands and some basic tools to get the work done. Sometimes it gets really hot in the shop, so we have to keep spraying water on everything to keep the flowers from dying. It’s a constant battle against the heat and the time. We also decorate cars for weddings, which we usually do right outside on the street when there is space. It’s a busy life, and we are usually tired by the time the sun goes down, but there’s always more work to do the next morning when the fresh stock arrives from the mandi.
