Our engineering company is based in Village Bijliwal, which is part of the Batala taluka in Gurdaspur. We are right there at the post office basically. It is a quiet village and we like it that way. Most of what we do involves the farm equipment that the local farmers use. When a tractor breaks down or a plow snaps, they bring it to us. It is a lot of heavy lifting and getting grease under our fingernails. I took over the shop from my father and we haven't changed much since then. We have a few old machines that still work better than the new ones. The shop can get pretty dark in the evenings but we have some good lights set up. We don't have any marketing people or fancy brochures. If you need something fixed you just show up and we talk about it. Sometimes we have to wait for parts to come in from the city which can take a few days. We try to be quick because we know the farmers need their gear back in the fields. It is a simple way of living and working. We know everyone’s name around here and they know ours. We just keep the tools sharp and the welder ready. It is not a glamorous job but it is important for the village. We just do our best every single day to keep the machines running for the neighbors.
