Prathipadu is a quiet enough place in Guntur, and that is where you will find this branch of Dav Public Schools. It is a simple building without much flash. We get here before the sun gets too high because the heat in this part of Andhra can be tough. The school day follows a very set routine. First the bell rings, then the prayer, then the shuffle of feet into the classrooms. We have a lot of benches that have seen better days, but they serve the purpose. The office where we sit is tucked away in a corner. It’s filled with old wooden desks and metal filing cabinets. We don't use much technology for the day-to-day running; it’s mostly paper and pen work. The local people know us well because their kids have been coming here for years. We see the same faces at the gate every morning. There isn't any fancy philosophy here. We just teach the syllabus and make sure the kids stay out of trouble during the breaks. Sometimes we have to deal with power cuts, and then everyone just sits in the shade of the trees in the yard. It's a very normal, local school life. When 4:00 PM comes, the place empties out fast. We lock up the main gate, walk down the road, and head home to our own families in the village nearby.
