Omprakash Verma is the main person here in Rasoolpurdhaurahra. This is a small village and we all know each other's families. We started Op Mahatiya Organic Farmer Producer Company Limited to help the farmers in our neighborhood. The land here has been farmed for generations and we want to keep it healthy by using organic methods instead of all those harsh chemicals. It is a real group effort. We don’t actually have a big office building or anything fancy like that. Most of our meetings happen at Omprakash’s house or just out in the village where we can sit and talk. It is very informal. We discuss who is growing what and when we think the harvest will be ready for market. The name Op Mahatiya is what we use for the official paperwork. Growing things organically is definitely more work because you have to spend more time weeding and checking the plants. But we think it is worth the extra effort. We are just a bunch of farmers trying to get a fair price for the hard work we put in. Sometimes it is tough to find people who want to pay a bit more for organic stuff, but we keep at it. The village is a quiet place and we like it that way. We aren't looking for big money, just enough to keep going.
