Matra Chaya Restaurant

Shastri Road is always crowded. We are tucked behind the Jal kal gate in Golghar. If you know Gorakhpur, you know how busy this spot gets. We have been serving food here for years. It is a simple restaurant, nothing fancy to look at from the outside or inside. We have tables and chairs that have seen a lot of use. People come in, eat their lunch or dinner, and go about their day. We spend most of our time in the kitchen or clearing plates. The smell of cooking hangs around all day. Sometimes we run out of things if the market is slow. We do not have a big menu with too many choices. Just the regular stuff people like to eat every day. The staff is just a few local guys who have been with us for a long time. We do not do any big advertising. People find us because they are already in Golghar for shopping or work. It is noisy because of the traffic on Shastri Road, but once you sit down, it is okay. We keep the water jars filled and the floors mopped. It is hard work, especially when it gets humid. We just keep the doors open and wait for the regulars to show up. It is just a small place trying to keep everyone fed. We are usually here from early morning to get things ready before the lunch rush starts.
