Saraj Valley Producer Company Limited is situated over in Ramharicharpt-1, which is part of the Lakhipur block in Goalpara. You can find us at Nur Islam’s place. We’ve been working out of this area for a while, mostly focusing on whatever the local farmers are bringing in. The valley here is good for growing things, but getting the produce out to the markets in Goalpara or further away can be a real headache. That’s why we got together to form this company. It’s a way for us to share the burden of the logistics and the selling. We don’t have any corporate training or anything like that. Most of what we know comes from years of working in the fields and seeing how the markets change over time. The office is a simple place where we keep the registers and talk about the upcoming seasons. There’s usually someone there drinking tea and looking over the accounts to see where we stand. We have our fair share of problems, like when the roads get bad after a storm or when the prices aren't what we expected. But we just keep at it because that’s what we know how to do. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there. We just want to make sure the people around Lakhipur have a fair chance to make a living from their farms. It’s practical, everyday work that doesn’t need much explaining to anyone who lives here.
