Sonyo Wooden Handicrafts

Our workshop, Sonyo Wooden Handicrafts, is in Qazi Sarai- 2. We are located right near the Police Chowki in Nagina. Since we are in Nagina, wood is obviously what we work with most. The smell of sawdust is something you just get used to when you spend all day here. It’s a local shop, nothing like those big furniture factories. We use hand tools for a lot of what we do. The space is often covered in wood shavings and bits of lumber. We don't have a clean, polished office. Our desks are usually covered in sketches and small wood pieces. Being near the Police Chowki makes it easy to give people directions to find us. We don't spend money on ads. We just trust that the work we do is enough. The people who work here have been doing this for a long time. It’s a skill that takes years to get right. We aren't a corporate entity with a big mission statement. We just make wooden items because that is what we know how to do. Sometimes a piece doesn't turn out quite right and we have to start over. That is just part of the process. We are just regular people in Nagina making a living from the local craft. It is a noisy, dusty, but honest way to spend the day in Qazi Sarai. We just keep carving and sanding until the work is done for the day.
