Santej Tiles & Marble

Santej Tiles & Marble sits right on the Main Road in Santej at Block No. 863. This is in the Kalol taluka, so it is a bit of a drive from the main city. We have a big open yard where we keep all the slabs of marble and crates of tiles. It is a very heavy business. We spend a lot of time moving stone around with old trolleys or just by hand when we have to. The sun beats down on the stone all day, making it hot to the touch in the summer. We have all kinds of colors and patterns, but mostly we just focus on the stuff people use for their floors and walls. Cutting the stone creates a lot of white dust that gets everywhere, including our hair and clothes. We don't have a polished showroom with air conditioning. It is mostly just an outdoor space and a small office where we keep the bills. People come by in their trucks or tractors to pick up their orders. We talk about the weather and the prices of stone while we load things up. It is honest work and it is physically demanding. Sometimes a slab cracks and that is just a loss we have to deal with. We have been here for a good while and the locals know us as the place on the main road for stone. It is a simple life centered around these heavy materials.
