Shree Shyam Sundar Degree College

Shree Shyam Sundar Degree College is based in Thana Gaon, which is a bit of a trek if you aren't from around Etah. It’s a college for local students who want to get their degrees without traveling too far into the bigger cities. The building is pretty plain, sitting there on the side of the road, and we get a lot of students coming in from the surrounding farms and smaller patches of houses. Most of the day is spent handling paperwork or sitting in the office dealing with admissions and exam forms. It’s a lot of manual work because the systems aren't always the fastest. The classrooms have high ceilings and heavy wooden benches that have been around for a long time. You can hear the traffic passing by outside while the lecturers are talking. It isn't a flashy place, but it's where people come to get their BA or BSc and move on with their lives. We have a small staff, so everyone ends up doing a bit of everything, whether it's helping a student find a book or making sure the water cooler is filled. It gets hot in the afternoons, but that’s just life in UP. We just try to keep things running so the students can finish their exams on time.
