Solar Cafe

Solar Cafe is located on Calvathy Road in the Kochi Fort area of Ernakulam. This part of Kochi has a lot of history, and we’re glad to be a small part of it. Our cafe is in an old building, which means the walls are thick but sometimes the roof needs a bit of looking after when the monsoon hits hard. We’ve tried to keep the place feeling relaxed. There are books lying around and the fans are usually humming away to keep the humid air moving. It’s not a place where you’ll find waiters in uniforms or anything like that. We just wear what’s comfortable and talk to people like they’re neighbors. A lot of travelers find their way here while they’re exploring the fort area, but we also have locals who stop in just to sit in the shade. The coffee isn't made by a giant machine; we do it the way we’ve always done. Sometimes the service is a bit slow if we’re busy talking to someone or if the kitchen is backed up, but most people don't seem to be in a rush anyway. We don't have a big mission or anything like that. We just want to keep the cafe open and have a nice spot for people to rest. It’s a bit dusty and the chairs don't all match, but it feels like home to us.
