Cafe Du Mahe

This cafe is part of the Tea Bungalow over on Kunumpuram in Kochi Fort. It’s an old area with a lot of history, and you can really feel it when you walk into the building. We are at 1/1901, and the place has these high ceilings and old floors that creak when you walk on them. It’s not like those modern places you see in the center of the city. We have to be careful with the plumbing and the wiring because it’s such an older structure. Most of the people who come in are tourists walking around the Fort Kochi area, looking at the old trees and the sea. We don't have a lot of bells and whistles here. We just set the tables every morning and wait for the day to start. The kitchen is small, and sometimes it gets way too hot in there during the afternoon, but we manage. We spend our mornings dusting the wooden furniture and making sure the old fans are still working. It gets very quiet in the afternoons when the sun is high, and then we just sit and watch the street through the windows. We don't have any grand plans to change things. We just like this old house and the people who stop by for a break from their walk. It's a simple life, just serving people and keeping the place tidy.
