Our office is tucked away in Kanathi House on Mutikkei Road, and it’s been that way for quite some time. L I C Of India has a lot of history, but here in this specific building, it’s mostly about the day-to-day grind of handling files and meeting folks. The building itself has a lot of character, maybe even a bit too much when the stairs creak or the windows rattle in the wind. Mutikkei Road can get pretty congested, especially during the rainy season when the puddles start to form near the entrance. Inside, it’s a lot of paper and the sound of people talking over the phone or across desks. We don’t have any of those modern open-plan layouts you see in the city; it’s more traditional and a bit crowded with cabinets and folders. Everyone here has their own way of organizing things, and somehow it all works out by the end of the day. We spend a lot of time just making sure the records are straight and the visitors get the information they came for. It’s not the most exciting environment, but there is a sense of purpose in what we do at Kanathi House. We take our breaks when we can and try to keep things friendly among the staff. It’s a solid place to work, and being on Mutikkei Road means we are right in the middle of the local community.
