Shri Krishan Bartan Store

The sound of metal clinking is what you’ll hear all day at Shri Krishan Bartan Store. We are located at Krishna Nagar D-4/1, and the place is literally packed with stainless steel from floor to ceiling. There are piles of plates, stacks of pressure cookers, and rows of spoons everywhere you look. If you walk too fast, you’re liable to knock something over, and the noise is enough to wake the whole block. I’ve been working here since I was much younger, and I know where every single lid and pot is hidden, even the ones tucked away in the very back. People come here when they are getting married or moving into a new house and need to set up their kitchen from scratch. It gets really busy during the festival seasons, and sometimes there isn't even enough room for everyone to stand inside at the same time. I spend a lot of my day polishing the brass items because they tarnish so fast in this air. The counter is old wood that’s been worn smooth by years of sliding heavy pots across it. We don't have any computers or fancy tracking systems; I just write everything down in a big ledger with a pen that’s almost out of ink. It’s a traditional way of doing things, but it works for us here in Krishna Nagar. My father used to say that a good pot should last a lifetime.
