About Rohit Bartan Bhandar – Housewares & Supplies in East Delhi
Running Rohit Bartan Bhandar at A-104 in Madhu Vihar Main Market keeps us on our feet all day. It’s a small shop but we pack it full. You can hardly see the walls because of all the steel and brass stacked up. The market is always crowded, especially in the evenings when everyone is out shopping for their kitchens. We’ve been here at this address for quite some time. It’s noisy outside with the rickshaws and people talking, but that’s just how it is. Sometimes we have to climb up the ladder to get a specific pressure cooker or a large pot from the top shelf. It gets a bit dusty with all the metal, so we spend a lot of time wiping things down. My hands usually smell like metal by the end of the day. We don't have fancy displays or anything. Things are just where they fit. We know where everything is, even if it looks like a mess to someone else. Customers come in looking for a small spoon or a whole set for a wedding. We just show them what we have on the shelves. It’s basic work, but it’s what we do. The tea man comes by twice a day, and that’s our little break. Madhu Vihar is a busy place, and being right on the main market means we never have a dull moment. We just keep the shop open and wait for the next person to walk in.
