New Rice & Rice

We’ve been here at 5, Rajiv Gandhi Road for quite a while now. Most days it’s just us moving heavy sacks and making sure the inventory is right. People come in from the neighborhood asking about different grades of rice, and we just show them what’s in the bins today. It gets pretty dusty inside when we’re unloading a new shipment, but that is just part of the work. We aren't a big fancy operation, just a spot on the road where you can get what you need for your kitchen. Sometimes the traffic outside gets loud, especially in the afternoons, but we just keep at it. My hands are usually a bit rough from handling the jute bags all day long. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who know where everything is kept. If someone needs a specific type for a festival or just a small bag for dinner, we help them out. The floor needs sweeping pretty often because grains always seem to find their way out of the bags. It’s a simple life here. We open early when the air is still a bit cool and stay until the sun goes down. There isn’t much to say other than we’re just here doing our job on Rajiv Gandhi Road, keeping the shelves stocked and the scales balanced for whoever walks through the door.
