Kalplata Apparels

Gandhi Nagar is famous for its clothes, and Raguwarpura No.- 1 is right in the thick of that world. At X/712, Gali No.- 8, we’ve carved out a space for Kalplata Apparels. It’s a narrow building, like most of them around here, and we use every inch of it. The sound of sewing machines is basically the soundtrack to our lives. You can hear the rhythmic clicking from the street before you even step inside. There are rolls of fabric leaning against the walls and scraps of thread all over the floor by midday. It’s a bit chaotic, but there’s a system to it that only we really understand. Moving through Gali No.- 8 can be a challenge with all the rickshaws and laborers carrying huge bundles on their heads. We spend a lot of time just coordinating things and making sure the tailors have what they need. The light in the workshop is bright because you need to see the stitches, but the rest of the building is a bit cramped. We don’t have a showroom with mannequins; we just have stacks of finished garments ready to be bagged and sent out. It’s a tough business with tight margins, but being here in the heart of the textile market is where we need to be. Most days, we just eat our lunch quickly at our desks and get back to the machines. By the time we close up, the place feels a bit quieter.
