Our place is located at Plot No. Ix/175 over in the Saraswati Bhandar area. Ambika Wears Pvt. Ltd. has been operating from this spot for a good bit of time. It's mostly just rows of sewing machines and rolls of fabric sitting around. The noise of the needles hitting the cloth is what you hear all day long. We don't have much room for a lounge or anything like that because the inventory takes up most of the space. Workers come in early, grab their stations, and start on the day's piles. There are threads all over the floor by noon, which we sweep up before leaving. Being in a spot like Saraswati Bhandar means things stay busy outside too. We deal with suppliers and people coming to look at samples throughout the week. Sometimes a machine breaks down and someone has to tinker with it for an hour to get it moving again. It's not the kind of place that looks like a showroom. It’s a working factory floor. We focus on getting the stitching right and making sure the sizes are what they should be. It’s repetitive work, but we are used to the rhythm of it. When the orders are big, the lights stay on late. We just try to keep things organized so we can find the right boxes when the trucks arrive for loading at the gate.
