Babu Hair Saloon sits at Wb-19 in Shakarpur. We are very close to the Metro station, so we see a lot of people rushing by every single day. You can hear the trains rumbling overhead if you listen closely enough. It’s a fast-paced area, but inside the shop, things move a bit slower. I like to take my time with the scissors. When someone sits in my chair, they aren't in a rush for those few minutes. We have been here for a good while, and the neighborhood has changed so much around us. More shops, more people, more noise. Shakarpur is a crowded place to live and work, but it’s never boring. The shop itself is simple. I have my favorite combs and a couple of razors that I keep very sharp. The walls have some old pictures of hairstyles that nobody really asks for anymore, but I keep them up anyway. They remind me of when I first started learning the trade. Most of our regulars are students or people who work nearby and stop in before heading home on the Metro. I try to keep the prices fair so everyone can afford a decent cut. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s honest work and it keeps the lights on. I’m usually here from nine until the last train runs and the street finally starts to get quiet.
