Down at 142 in the Patparganj Functional Industrial Estate, things move at a steady pace. Arctech Numberic Tools is where we handle a lot of technical stuff, but we aren't a high-tech lab. It’s still an industrial shop at the end of the day. We deal with numeric tools, which means we spend a lot of time looking at screens and then looking at the machines to see if they’re doing what they’re told. The estate itself is full of different businesses, so there’s always someone moving a truck or unloading boxes nearby. Our space is organized, mostly, but there’s always a corner where old parts and scrap metal seem to pile up. We have a few computers that look a bit outdated, but they run the software just fine. The staff doesn't wear uniforms; we just wear clothes that we don't mind getting a bit of grease on. It’s not a place for people who want to stay perfectly clean. We drink our tea from chipped mugs and talk about the weekend while we wait for a cycle to finish. There isn't any mystery to what we do. We get the specs, we set the tools, and we watch the metal get shaped. It’s repetitive sometimes, but there’s a satisfaction in seeing a finished piece that’s exactly the right size.
