Aamil Hair Cutting Saloon

Aamil Hair Cutting Saloon sits in the MCD Market at Jheel Chowk in Delhi. We are right on the main road, so you hear the buses and the rickshaws going by all day long. It is a small shop, but it’s ours. We have been here for a long time and have seen the kids in the neighborhood grow up and start bringing their own kids in for a trim. The shop has a few mirrors and the usual chairs that have seen better days. We don’t have any of those fancy spa treatments or anything like that. It’s just hair cutting and shaves. The walls are painted a simple color and we have a small TV in the corner that’s usually playing the news or a cricket match if one is on. During the festivals, Jheel Chowk gets so crowded you can barely walk, and our shop becomes a little bit of a getaway from the madness outside. We keep our tools sharp and the water in the spray bottles is always fresh. There is usually a bit of a queue on Sunday mornings because that’s when the men around here like to get cleaned up for the week. We just keep working through it, one person at a time. It’s a basic life but it’s a good one and we like being part of the market community. People know where to find us when they need a quick cut.
