Lorento Convent School

Manaitand is a crowded part of Dhanbad, and Kumhar Patti is even more packed with people and small shops. Our school, Lorento Convent School, is right in the middle of all that. You can hear the potters working nearby and the sound of the traffic on Kumharpatti Road throughout the day. It’s a very busy environment, but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. The school itself is a bit of an old building. It has high ceilings and fans that never seem to stop turning because Dhanbad gets so hot and humid. We don’t have much space for a big yard, so the kids mostly stay indoors or in the small courtyard. Most of the families who send their children here live in the surrounding lanes. They work hard, and they expect their kids to do the same. We have a small staff of teachers who have been with us for a long time. We don’t go in for anything fancy or promotional. We just focus on the daily routine of teaching and keeping the place in order. Sometimes the coal dust from the nearby mines can be a bit much, so we are always cleaning the desks and the windows. It’s a constant battle, but it’s just part of living in this city. We finish our work, lock up the gates, and head home just like everyone else in the neighborhood.
